Cristiano Ronaldo netted a superb hat-trick, as Real Madrid defeated Kashima Antlers 4-2 to win this year’s Club World Cup title.
The Portugal captain became the first player to score a hat-trick in the final of the competition and helped the La Liga club extend their record-breaking unbeaten run to 37 matches.

Ronaldo himself has made history time and again over the last 12 months.

On Sunday, the 31-year-old became the first player to win the Champions League, European Championship, Club World Cup and the Ballon d’Or in the same year.

The forward scored 16 goals in 12 Champions League matches, as Madrid won an 11th European crown. In the summer, he captained his country to their final major trophy in Euro 2016 staged in France.

He was rewarded for his brilliant performances with the Ballon d’Or – for the fourth time in his career.

POLICE MAN HEAVILY MASSAGE TO DEATH IN ENUGU STATE

A policeman was on Saturday clubbed to death‎ at the popular New Artisan Market within Enugu metropolis.

The incident followed the alleged shooting of a tricycle rider by the policeman.

Although earlier report had claimed that the policeman met his untimely death while attempting to apprehend some hoodlums smoking Indian hemp in Enugu metropolis, other sources hinted that an altercation between some policemen and a tricycle rider led to the incidents.

The New Artisan Market area has been a hot bed for hoodlums, who operate mostly at night. However, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration had upon assumption of power made effort to sanitize the area.

The spokesman of the Enugu State Police Command, SP Ebere Amaraizu, said that the police had begun massive crackdown and investigation into the matter.
“We are saddened with the development that we lost one of our own in the line of duty.
“It is unfortunate that at this age, people still engage in maiming law enforcement officers meant to protect and ensure they live peacefully in their neighbourhoods.
“We have launched investigation into the matter.
“The command would unravel what happened and deal with the culprits decisively,’’ he said.

Meanwhile some sources alleged that trouble had started when the policeman cautioned the tricycle rider against stopping in a particular place.

“The keke rider stopped some passengers and the policeman told him that he had no right to stop there. From that point, there was altercation to the point that the policeman invited three of his colleagues. By that time, other keke riders had gathered.

“At that point, the enraged policeman ‎shot at one of the keke riders. He lay in a pool of his blood and hell was let loose.

“The four policemen took to their heels and the keke riders pursued the particular one that shot the guy. He was shooting and running; as soon as he exhausted his bullets, ‎they got hold of him and stabbed him to death”, one of the sources alleged.

ABORLISH SHERIAH LAWS; IF YOU DON'T LIKE CHRISTIANS GAHTERING - CAN MISSILE BACK TO MUSLIMS

The General Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Musa Asake, has stated that Muslims have no right to kick against a proposed bill to establish Christian courts across Nigeria.


The House of Representatives on Tuesday in Abuja passed for second reading, a bill to provide for the establishment of the Ecclesiastical Court of Appeal in the country.

Following the development, many persons, especially the Muslim have community kicked against it.

Reacting to the attacks and criticisms trailing the bill, Asake said if the Muslims were not comfortable with the bill, they should also abolish Shariah.

On why they want to establish Christian court, the CAN scribe told Punch that, “We have tolerated them enough. People should choose their words wisely. The ecclesiastical courts have nothing to do with them. They should make room for peace. Fulani herdsmen have been maiming and killing our people.

“When we cry out, what we hear is that those herdsmen are foreigners. We are left with no one to cry to. All we can do right now is to cry out to our God. If those people are foreigners and are allowed to carry AK-47 rifles and kill people who are citizens of the country, what does that tell you about those in charge of this country? I forgive whoever thinks the proposed bill to have Christian courts established across the country is a stupid idea.


“Why didn’t they stop the implementation of Shariah? Why are they trying to force Shariah on people who are not Muslims? If they want to stop the ecclesiastical courts, then they should let the Shariah laws and courts be abolished,” he added.

OMG: MOST NOTORIOUS NIGER DELTA MILITANT, GENERAL EAGLE ARRESTED TODAY

A suspected notorious militant identified as “General Eagle”, has been arrested by the troops of Joint Task Force (JTF), Operation Delta Safe (ODS).

General Eagle was picked up by troops of ODS. He is reportedly the leader of a gang of militants, who have serially attacked pipelines in Delta and Bayelsa states.


Confirming the development at the weekend, the Commander, ODS, Rear Admiral Suleiman Apochi, said the hoodlum was arrested at his hideout along Captain Ayeni Road, Kpansia, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, alongside three other suspects.

According to Apochi, “After gathering actionable intelligence, troops carried out surgical military operations at his hideout at Captain Ayeni Road, Kpansia Yenagoa.

“He was arrested with three other suspects. Items recovered from his hideout include seven mobiles phones, 15 identity cards, one First Bank ATM card and a jack knife. Suspects are being interrogated for further actions”.

He said the suspect, who already confessed to some of the criminal activities, also engaged in the abduction of high-profile individuals in the region.

Apochi said: “The criminal and his group have at various times masterminded the destruction of oil infrastructures in order to sabotage the operation of the companies and the economy of the nation, engaged in illegal oil bunkering and kidnap of high profile victims.

“The self-acclaimed “General Eagle” recently organised and blew one of the oil company’s risers at Golubokiri along Obama Brass pipeline in Bayelsa State. He claimed responsibility for the heinous crime.


“The criminal was involved on the planting of explosives devices and threatened Tobie oil facilities at Golubokiri, Mansonkiri and others in the general area.

“The text that accompanied one of his blasts indicated that the criminal had severally threatened oil companies and their staff and thereafter owned up to the sabotage with further threats to carry out more attacks. It would interest you to know that he has been on the watch list of security agencies for some time now.”

OMG: UNGRATEFUL FATHER TORTURES AND BURN KIDS WITH HOT KNIFE OVER FISH IN ONDO STATE

A 41-year-old man identified as Alhaji Kasali Mumuni has reportedly inflicted serious wound on his two children, 9-year-old Maryam and Ojonla, 6, with hot knife in Owo, Ondo State capital, for allegedly stealing fish.

Mumuni is said to have been married on three occasions but none of his wives stayed with him for more than three years before they were sent packing with their children.


According to Vanguard, Kasali left home that fateful day for work only to return to discover that the only fish in the pot had been eaten.

When he came home and his food was served without fish, hell was let loose.

Narrating what happened, Maryam said it was actually true that Ojonla ate half of the piece of fish in the pot and that when their step-mother returned from her shop, she ate the other half.

She added that as their father returned and was served rice without fish, he flared up and their step-mother told him that the two of them stole the fish reserved for his dinner while she was away from the house.

Angered by what he was told, Maryam said that their father beat them mercilessly and later went into the kitchen to light the stove and put a knife on it.

“When the knife was hot and turned red, he pressed it on our stomachs one after the other. We cried and begged but our father refused to remove the knife,”the girl said.

“Our neighbors, who heard our cries, rushed to the scene only to be told by our father that they should mind their businesses.

“He held us down for several minutes as the knife was pressed on our stomachs”, she added.

She stated that the neighbours later informed officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) who rushed to the scene and rescued them.

“We were taken to the State Hospital, Akure by the officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps who later informed the Welfare Department of the state Ministry of Women Affairs”, she said.


The mother of the two children, who relocated to Ila Orangun, Osun State after his divorce from the suspect, is back in Akure to take care of the kids after the torture, allegedly by their father.

An official of the NSCDC confirmed that the suspect was arrested for allegedly inflicting injuries on his children.

He said the suspect, who was still being quizzed, would be prosecuted after investigation was completed.

PDP CHIEFTAINS OPEYEMI FALEGAN: EKITI BELLY INFRASTRUCTURE A RUSE, CONDUIT PIPE

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Ekiti State, Hon. Opeyemi Falegan, has berated the state governor over his stomach infrastructure policy, describing it as a ruse and conduit pipe to siphon the state’s resources.


Falegan also criticised the governor for allegedly playing to the gallery and in the process subjecting the state to ridicule.

The United Kingdom-based PDP chieftain, in a statement made available in Ado Ekiti yesterday, stated: “It is worrisome and disturbing, the level of bad image the current leadership in Ekiti State is giving it on daily basis as a result of seeking cheap publicity and public sympathy as a way of covering up financial mess on the corridor of power”.‬

He said people in and outside the state needed to ask questions on the actual amount being expended on “stomach infrastructure” by the governor.‬

According to him, “It will amaze the people that available information shows that the governor is claiming more than N50 million every month from government coffers as fund to finance the scheme, which has not reached two per cent of the state population since the governor started it.‬

‪”The governor claimed to have spent over N1.5 billion on the scheme but despite that, the level of abject poverty and hungry in the State cannot be compared to any other State in the Country.‬

‪”With at least, an investment of N500 million in each of the three senatorial districts in the State on agriculture, there will be abundant food on the table of nearly all the people in the state, especially the common people,the governor is claiming to associate with.‬

‪”Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State had announced a 40 per cent discount on rice during the yuletide season for the people of the State without unnecessary and unending publicity like what is obtainable in Ekiti State.‬

‪”Governor Fayose should rather borrow a leaf from Prof. Ayade on real governance and especially the plights of the electorate as against his deceptive nature of a-one-man-show of his administration in the State.‬

‪”Ekiti People are not hungry and lazy people as they are being portrayed by the governor. Give an average Ekiti man the wherewithals no matter how small it is, he ever ready to maximise it and work to feed himself and family members.‬


‪”Hardwork, honesty and sincerity are some of the traits, Ekiti people are known and appreciated for world over, so it will be unacceptable for us to be seen as otherwise because of the activities of some of our leaders on the corridor of power,” he stated.‬

‪Falegan, however, called on the Ekiti people not to be deterred by the activities of anybody, but rather continue to “live above board and defend the good name of our fore-fathers in and outside the State.‎”

The Imo State governor, Rochas Okoroca, has revealed that, in his administration, his wife, Nkechi Okorocha, controls over four ministries.


The governor made the revelation when the correspondent chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Imo State, recognized Nkechi with the “Most Outstanding Governor’s Wife Award” during the week in Owerri.

The Secretary to the state government, George Etche who represented the governor at the event, while listing the achievements of Okorocha’s wife in 6 years, also named the ministries under her control.

He said the ministries include, “Women Affairs, Works, Health, as well as the office of the Secretary to the State Government.”

Etche further said that the governor’s wife deserved to be honoured with the award of “Nobel peace prize”.

According to Etche, “We should thank God Almighty for giving us Owelle Rochas Okorocha who has offered us free education at all levels.


“We should also thank God for giving us his wife, Nkechi Okorocha, for putting smiles in the faces of the less privileged in the state.

“It is difficult to see first ladies do this kind of thing. You see that over 200 widows have gotten houses in Imo State.”
